Glycolic Peel

A glycolic peel is a type of chemical peel which uses glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is formulated from sugar cane and is classified as a type of alpha hydroxy acid peel. Glycolic peels exfoliate the superficial top layer of the skin while also loosening up the horny layer of the skin, which in turn stimulates collagen growth. In essence, a layer of dead skin is sloughed off and new regenerated skin is grown which is smoother and healthier than the original skin layer. A glycolic peel is often used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles caused by age, sun exposure, stress, or other factors. This procedure is usually done in a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon's office, and is a relatively simple procedure which requires no anesthesia. There is minimal discomfort involved beyond a little stinging.
