Hypertrophic Scar Treatment

Hypertrophic scars are large scars caused by acne, which look in appearance like a large raised mass of tissue. These scars are dense and hard, and often grow much larger than the original acne blemish. Hypertrophic scar treatment may be able to reduce the size and appearance of hypertrophic scars, however these type of acne scars are often difficult to completely eradicate. In some cases, the scar may even grow back after removal. Though difficult to treat, there are still options available. Steroid treatments have been shown to be effective in treating hypertrophic scars, either allpied topically or injected. Cryosurgery is another option when considering hypertrophic scar treatment. Silicone dressings may also be used. Certain types of laser treatments may also be effective, however there is not yet a treatment available which is 100% effective.
