Keloid Surgery
Cryosurgery is sometimes used as a form of keloid surgery to remove unsightly keloid acne scars. Thses types of acne scars are not pitted like other types of acne scars; instead, they appear raised, looking like tough lumps or knobs of tissue. They may be discolored, and are often much larger than the original acne blemish which caused the scar. Caused by an overproduction of collagen, keloids are among the most difficult type of scar to treat. These scars, also referred to as hypertrophic scars, can sometimes be removed through keloid surgery, though in some cases the keloid tissue grows back after surgery, making these kinds of scars particularly hard to completely remove. Other treatments in addition to cryosurgery or keloid surgery include laser treatments, injections, and steroid treatments.
