A plastic surgeon is a medical doctor that is trained in procedures that repair or replace damaged body tissue. This can be accomplished in a number of ways depending on the surgery to be done. People call on the services of a plastic surgeon for many reasons. Plastic surgeons are most noted for the enhancement they perform on every day people who simply aren't happy with their overall appearance. However, plastic surgeons have helped many people who were born with disfigurements, or who have become disfigured, to regain their self esteem. Plastic surgeons, as a whole, can perform many cosmetic procedures. Each individual plastic surgeon will be specialized in certain areas of the field.
